Kamala Harris is losing ground to Donald Trump as the U.S. presidential election nears, a series of polls revealed on Sunday.
Harris’s earlier lead over Trump has either diminished or disappeared entirely as the race heads into its final weeks. Three separate polls show the tightening competition for the White House.
In a recent NBC News poll, Harris and Trump are now tied nationally at 48 percent, a sharp shift from Harris’s five-point lead in the same poll last month.
Meanwhile, an ABC News/Ipsos poll shows Harris leading narrowly at 50 percent to 48 percent among likely voters, down from a six-point lead the previous month. A CBS News/YouGov poll also reports Harris ahead at 51 percent to 48 percent, compared to a four-point lead last month.
Harris holds a slim 1.4 percent lead in the Real Clear Polling average, down from 2.2 percent just a day earlier.
The shrinking numbers are raising alarm among Democrats, who worry that Harris is struggling to maintain support from key demographics, particularly Hispanics and African Americans. Although Harris leads among women across racial groups, she has faced challenges in garnering enthusiasm from men, including African American and Hispanic voters, who have increasingly leaned towards Trump.
Recent polls from The New York Times/Siena College show Harris securing 78 percent of the Black vote and 56 percent of the Hispanic vote, notably lower than the margins achieved by Democratic candidates in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
Last Thursday, former President Barack Obama urged Black men to show more enthusiasm for Harris’s campaign, contrasting their current support with the energy he received during his 2008 and 2012 bids.
