The federal government has significantly reduced the prices of petrol and diesel, lowering them by Rs10.20 and Rs2.33 per litre, respectively, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday. Following this reduction, the new prices stand at Rs258.16 per litre for petrol and Rs267.89 per litre for diesel.
This price cut was revealed just a day ahead of the scheduled fortnightly price revision set for June 15. The timing of this decision is notable, coming two days before Pakistan’s celebration of Eidul Azha, for which the government has declared three holidays.
Earlier in the month, on June 1, the government had already reduced petrol prices by Rs4.74 per litre and diesel prices by Rs3.86 per litre. The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted that these measures have collectively provided a relief of Rs35 per litre of petrol to the public.
This latest adjustment reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the financial burden on the population amid fluctuating fuel prices. By announcing the cuts just before a major holiday, the government aims to ease transportation costs for the public during a period of high travel and activity. The cumulative reductions are seen as part of a broader strategy to stabilize the economy and support citizens during challenging economic times.
As the country prepares for Eidul Azha, the reduced fuel prices are expected to provide some economic respite, enhancing the festive spirit and allowing for more affordable travel and festivities.
