Eight individuals, including seven men and one woman, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Pakistani man in the Pulau Tikus area of Penang, Malaysia.
The arrests occurred during multiple raids early this morning. Acting Northeast District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake confirmed to Harian Metro that the main suspect is still at large, and authorities are actively working to locate him.
“The victim was believed to be working in the shop when one of the suspects entered and attacked him with a screwdriver before fleeing… we are hunting for the main suspect,” Lee said on Tuesday.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 58, were apprehended at various locations across the state. Those arrested include the owner of a fruit shop, several employees, and the proprietor of a nearby motorcycle shop.
According to Superintendent Lee, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. yesterday when the 48-year-old victim was allegedly attempting to steal alcoholic beverages from the fruit shop.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim had a dispute with the main suspect at the shop before being stabbed with a screwdriver.
The victim was rushed to a clinic on Jalan Datuk Keramat but succumbed to his injuries.
Reports indicate that the main suspect was simply passing by the shop when the altercation took place. The shop owner confronted the victim, after which a customer stabbed him four times with a screwdriver before fleeing the scene.
