Controversial YouTuber Adil Raja Loses Defamation Case at London High Court, Fined £13,000

Controversial and fugitive YouTuber Adil Raja has lost yet another application at the London High Court in the defamation case brought by Brigadier (retired) Rashid Nasir, resulting in another fine being imposed on him.

The UK High Court dismissed Adil Farooq Raja’s request to pay only £35 per month to Brigadier (R) Rashid Naseer towards the £10,000 previously ordered by the court. This decision was part of a hearing held two months ago where Adil Raja lost on all counts. The judge not only dismissed Raja’s application but also ordered him to pay around £13,000.

In another setback for Adil Raja, it has been determined that he will not be able to recover his legal fees from the retired military officer, who has won all stages of the defamation case against Raja.

Accused of anti-Pakistan activities on social media, the fugitive YouTuber is represented by Mahtab Anwar Aziz of Central Chambers Law Solicitors. This law firm is owned by Ahmad Jawad, a businessman from Mandi Bahauddin in Gujrat, Chhimmon Village. Evidence shows that Ahmad Jawad, also known as Ahmad Jawad Gondal, established the law firm with his Indian business partner Mannu Vaish.

Ahmad Jawad Gondal and Mannu Vaish set up Central Chambers Law around seven years ago under company number 11326453, with a registered office address at Central Chambers, Suite 2, The Broadway, London, England, W5 2NR, according to UK Company House records.

Ahmad Jawad’s employee and PTI UK activist, Mahtab Anwar Aziz, is a lawyer for both PTI supporters Shayan Ali and Adil Raja. Ahmad Jawad Gondal has regularly organized press conferences at his London office through Mahtab Aziz to launch attacks on Pakistani institutions.

Syed Tasnim Haider and Shayan Ali have organized protests against Pakistani institutions in London, funded by Ahmad Jawad and his Indian partner. Their office and resources have frequently been used to lay false allegations against Pakistani institutions, the Pakistan Army, and the judiciary. Ahmad Jawad also hosted Sher Afzal Marwat when he visited the UK last year.

Around two months ago, Deputy High Court Judge Richard Spearman KC ruled that Adil Farooq Raja should pay £5,000 to the now-retired Brigadier for the rejected application to stay the defamation trial. The judge also ordered Raja to pay a further interim payment on account of costs in the sum of £5,000 for the failed security for costs application.

The High Court has ruled that 9 out of the 10 publications by Adil Raja were defamatory of Brig (R) Rashid Naseer at common law and were matters of fact, not expressions of opinion. In deciding the meaning of the publications, Deputy High Court Judge Richard Spearman KC ruled that Brig (R) Rashid Naseer was defamed under UK common law when Adil Farooq Raja made over a dozen false allegations.

Adil Farooq Raja initiated his campaign against the retired officer on June 14, 2022, through tweets and YouTube and Facebook videos. Court documents reveal that the retired brigadier filed his case through his UK lawyers on August 11, 2022.

Last month, Ahmad Jawad’s employee, Mahtab Anwar Aziz, told a UK court during Adil Raja’s trial that PTI UK activist Shayan Ali suffers from serious mental health issues. Mahtab stated that Shayan, expelled last year from his London college over similar issues, was vulnerable and suffering from serious mental health problems.

Mahtab made baseless allegations of terrorism, corruption, murder, kidnappings, torture, rigging, repression, and censorship against Pakistani institutions before the English Court but failed to provide evidence to support his claims. The court imposed a fine of £10,000 on Adil Raja for defaming the retired Pakistani brigadier.

On Ahmad Jawad’s instructions, Mahtab Anwar Aziz provided a 12-page supporting statement for Adil Raja in court, but it was rejected due to a lack of evidence for his claims against Pakistani institutions. Adil Raja has been living in the UK since April 2022.
