The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court has extended Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s physical remand by six days in connection with case number 2831, registered at New Town police station, related to the September 28 arson attack.
The decision, announced by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Shah, followed proceedings held at Adiala Jail. The prosecutor successfully argued for an extension of Khan’s custody to facilitate further investigation.
Imran Khan was arrested by Rawalpindi Police shortly after securing bail in the Toshakhana II case from the Islamabad High Court last week. His detention is linked to charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act, including allegations of arson, encroachment, stone pelting, resisting law enforcement, and causing damage to government property.
A police spokesperson revealed that an investigation team, led by the SSP Investigation, is interrogating the PTI chairman. Khan is scheduled to appear before the court again tomorrow for additional remand proceedings.
This marks the second extension of Imran Khan’s custody since his initial five-day physical remand, granted following his first appearance before the Anti-Terrorism Court at Adiala Jail after his arrest.
Separately, the Islamabad High Court granted Imran Khan bail in the Toshakhana II case yesterday. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb issued a one-page order allowing bail against a bond of Rs1 million and two sureties. The judge also cautioned Khan against misusing his bail and instructed him to attend all trial court hearings unless formally exempted.
Despite this legal relief, Imran Khan remains in custody as he requires bail in 66 other cases to secure his release.
