Bodies of Four Pakistanis killed in Oman terror attack repatriated

On Friday, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) reported that the bodies of four Pakistanis killed in a rare mosque attack in Muscat, Oman, have been repatriated. The attack, claimed by the terrorist group Daesh and condemned by Pakistan as a “dastardly” act of terrorism, occurred on Monday evening at the Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Wadi al-Kabir.

According to the Royal Oman Police, the three gunmen involved—who were Omani brothers—were killed during a standoff with security forces. The police noted that these individuals were influenced by “misguided ideas.”

The assault resulted in six fatalities: four Pakistanis, an Indian, and a police officer. Additionally, twenty-eight people were injured. PIA announced that the body of Syed Qaiser has been sent to Karachi and will later be moved to Lahore, while the remains of Ghulam Abbas and Hasan Abbas have been transported to Islamabad, and Suleman Nawaz’s body has been sent to Lahore.

This attack, which was Daesh’s first known operation in Oman, occurred just before Ashura, a significant day of mourning marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions in the battle of Karbala.
