PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s slip of the tongue during a Sindh High Court Bar Association event in Karachi on Tuesday sparked unexpected laughter from the audience. While attempting to use a common idiom, he said, “They say if you give them an inch, they take a mile…” while gesturing, which prompted chuckles throughout the hall.
Realizing the potential double meaning of his remark, he quickly clarified, “No, I mean in English, I’m talking about something else. There’s an English proverb: ‘Give them an inch, they take a mile; that’s what I meant.’”
Accompanied by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Bilawal chuckled, “Oh, the memes that will be made now!”
The incident caught the attention of political opponents as well, with PTI leader Arslan Baloch commenting that had a similar gesture been made by PTI leadership, it would have sparked outrage.
Bilawal’s lighthearted response to his gaffe has reignited discussions about the often unpredictable nature of political discourse in Pakistan.
