Confesses government failed to keep institutions from interference.
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appealed to all political parties to unite and work towards the Charter of Democracy (CoD). He emphasized the importance of restoring democracy and strengthening the parliament in the country.
FM Bilawal declared in the National Assembly that the opposition (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) had no respect for democracy or the constitution. He further emphasized that the incumbent government had inherited a country with such a concerning situation.
“This government could not even think of crossing such red lines,” he said. “Even when we opposed the dictators, we did not cross the red lines.”
Bilawal not only criticized the opposition but also urged them to change their attitude. He specifically emphasized that people should see the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan as a payback.
He confidently stated that regardless of the situation, Imran Khan would eventually be released from jail, and the country is steadily progressing towards upcoming elections.
Therefore, he said, “It is time for all political parties to come together and agree on a new charter of democracy, or at the very least, revisit the old one.”
The PPP chairman stated that they consistently advocated for all institutions to operate within their respective spheres. However, during the 15 months of their tenure, he expressed regret over their failure to curtail the interference of various institutions in each other’s affairs.
He said, “The young generation is fed up with traditional politics.”
FM Bilawal urged Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif to make decisions that would facilitate an easier political situation for him and Maryam.
