Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a meeting of the Apex Committee, established under the National Action Plan (NAP), on Monday, according to sources.
The meeting will include senior civil and military leadership, with the Defence Minister, Interior Minister, and other cabinet members in attendance. The chief ministers from all provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and services chiefs will also participate in the session, the sources reported.
The main focus of the meeting will be to evaluate the current law and order situation, with particular emphasis on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where terrorism continues to pose a significant threat. The committee will be briefed on the progress of intelligence-based operations targeting terrorist groups.
The session will also assess the broader national security framework and is expected to make key decisions to counter terrorism more effectively.
In a previous meeting, the Apex Committee had approved a revitalized national counter-terrorism campaign, marked by the launch of Operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’. This initiative received the support of all relevant stakeholders, reinforcing the country’s collective commitment to fighting extremism and terrorism.
Operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ was introduced with consensus from provincial authorities, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during a meeting of the Central Apex Committee, chaired by PM Shehbaz Sharif.
A press release from the Prime Minister’s office emphasized that the operation integrates various strategies to tackle extremism and terrorism in a comprehensive, decisive manner. The forum reiterated that the battle against terrorism is critical for Pakistan’s survival, and no one would be allowed to undermine the state’s authority.
