IHC directs Police and FIA not to arrest Imaan Mazari in any new case
Meanwhile,
Islamabad High Court today directed the capital police not to arrest Imaan Mazari in any new case. Imaan Mazari is a human rights lawyer and daughter of former PTI minister Shirin Mazari.
The IHC Judge Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb ordered this in a two-page written order. The order is a protective shield for Ms Mazari, preventing her arrest in any new cases.
On Saturday, the IHC Judge directed the Secretary of Interior, IG Police, and Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) not to arrest Mazari after her release.
At present, Imaan Mazari is in jail on a judicial remand. An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) sent her on a 14-day judicial remand in a case accusing her of collecting money for anti-state activities.
The ATC initially granted her bail in another case related to her participation in a protest in Islamabad. The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement organized the protest in the federal capital.
However, Islamabad police arrested her after Bara Kahu police registered a sedition case under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
Imaan Mazari was presented in the court of ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, which approved her judicial remand.
Lawyer Qaiser Imam also noted Imaan’s deteriorating medical condition and requested the court to keep her at Islamabad’s Women’s Police Station. Judge Zulqarnain approved the request after listening to arguments on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court restricted authorities from moving Imaan out of the federal capital during her arrest. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard Imaan’s plea to access details of all FIRs against her.
