Onijah Andrew Robinson, a U.S. woman who has been in Karachi for several months searching for her Pakistani lover, has been moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) due to mental health concerns.
Sources told private News channel that Robinson has been speaking incoherently and has been experiencing swelling in her hands and feet. She is currently being treated in the Department of Psychiatry at JPMC, where she is awaiting a full evaluation.
Her son, Jeremiah Andrew Robinson, revealed that his mother has been struggling with cognitive impairments. In a video statement, he explained that Onijah had originally planned to return to the U.S. after two weeks in Pakistan in October, but she never boarded her flight. Despite purchasing a return ticket for her, she did not use it. Jeremiah expressed that his mother’s actions and statements should be understood in light of her mental health issues.
Onijah’s criminal history includes an arrest in Charleston County, South Carolina, in 2021 for “Entering Premises After Warning.” A bail bond was set at $465, though it’s unclear whether the bond was paid.
The 33-year-old woman garnered attention after refusing to board a flight from Karachi, instead leaving the airport to forcibly enter a residential building in the Garden East area. Despite pleas from residents and police, she refused to leave the premises.
On January 29, a two-member team from the U.S. Consulate in Karachi visited Onijah at the airport, informing airport authorities that they could not forcibly remove her as it would be illegal and could result in legal consequences for both the U.S. government and the consulate. Onijah returned to the same residential building on Friday, shortly after holding a press conference with Ramzan Chhipa, the head of a local charity organization. During the event, she had a brief altercation with Chhipa, telling him, “you speak too much.”
