AGP informed IHC that Balochistan Police are not seeking Sanam Javed’s transit remand

ISLAMABAD: The Attorney General informed the Islamabad High Court on Thursday that Balochistan police are no longer pursuing the transit remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf activist Sanam Javed.

“Sanam Javed is free to return to her native province,” the government’s senior counsel informed the high court.

The court deemed Sanam Javed’s arrest unlawful and dismissed the petition.

“I have seen Sanam Javed using inappropriate language on the internet,” Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzaib told her lawyer. “Can you guarantee that she will refrain from such language?” the judge asked the counsel.

The lawyer assured the court that his client would not use inappropriate language in the future.

Earlier in the week, the Islamabad High Court ordered the release of PTI activist Sanam Javed after several rounds of arrest and re-arrest.

The bench, headed by Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzaib, also restrained the police from arresting Sanam Javed in any other case until Thursday.

Sanam Javed, who was arrested in connection with multiple cases stemming from events on May 9, was presented before the IHC where she was granted release to return home. The court additionally requested records of all cases involving Sanam Javed and directed the police to provide a complete one-year record regarding the PTI activist.

The court, however, instructed Sanam Javed not to leave Islamabad by Thursday.

Earlier in the week, Islamabad police transferred the PTI activist to Balochistan police in relation to the May 9 vandalism case.

She was presented before the G-11 district court, where the judge granted her transit remand to Balochistan police.
