ISLAMABAD: Hajra Khan Panezai, a prominent Pakistani television and film actor, is gearing up to unveil the unabridged edition of her 2014 book next week, which contains explosive claims against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Titled “WHERE THE OPIUM GROWS: Surviving Pakistan as a Woman, an Actress, and Knowing Imran Khan,” the memoir has been available on Amazon.
However, Panezai revealed in a recent podcast that the current version is a sanitized rendition.
Originally hailing from Balochistan, Panezai stepped into television in 2009 with Geo’s drama “Buri Aurat” and notably appeared in the 2018 film Pinky Memsaab.
Described as a riveting account, the book chronicles one woman’s journey from a deprived region of Pakistan, Quetta, notorious for the opium trade and post-Soviet war refugee influx, to achieving success as an actress and encountering Imran Khan, one of the country’s foremost figures.
While recalling her time with the PTI chairman, Panezai contends that significant details were omitted from the initial release, prompting her to present an unfiltered version this time.
She candidly discussed her “dark experience” of being pursued by a prominent individual, emphasizing that her motives are not politically driven as the book was penned in 2014.
Panezai urged people to be vigilant and reconsider viewing the PTI chief as the country’s savior, concluding firmly, “In 2014, I discerned that this [Imran Khan] is not the right choice.”
