ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) ,Today, prolonged the interim bail for Uzma Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, and her husband in a case involving fraudulent land dealings in Layyah.
Judge Naveed Ahmad Qureshi from ACE presided over the hearing of the plea made by the sister of the PTI chairman, who sought an extension for interim bail. During this time, Dr. Uzma Khan and her husband personally appeared in court.
After carefully evaluating the arguments presented by both sides, the court granted an extension of bail and postponed the hearing until August 24.
Furthermore, the court instructed ACE to present the challan in the upcoming hearing.
The case
Dr. Uzma and her husband, Ahad Majeed Niazi, are facing allegations of participating in fraudulent activities and exploiting political influence to acquire 5,261 kanal of land in the Nawan Kot area of tehsil Chaubara, which is situated in the Layyah district.
The First Information Report (FIR) alleges that Dr. Uzma and her husband purportedly acquired the land for a considerably reduced amount of Rs130 million, even though its actual value was estimated at Rs6 billion.
This land acquisition is of special significance due to its location along the route of the Greater Thal Canal project, which seeks to provide irrigation to regions including Layyah, Bhakkar, and Jhang.
A co-accused in this case is the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who stands accused of leveraging his role as the Prime Minister to aid his sister. Allegations suggest that he utilized his official position to facilitate the land acquisition procedure.
At present, Dr. Uzma and her husband have been granted bail until June 27, affording them temporary relief in connection to this matter.
