Medical Examination
ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, an accountability court in Islamabad has granted approval for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi’s request for a medical examination.
The hearing regarding the £190 million reference against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi took place in Adiala Jail, with Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana presiding over the proceedings.
During the hearing, former UK minister Sayeeda Warsi’s request to meet Imran Khan was also approved, highlighting the international interest in the case.
Furthermore, the court heard testimonies from two additional witnesses against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, with their statements duly recorded.
Additionally, statements from three more witnesses were recorded, and the hearing for the reference has been adjourned until May 15 to allow for further proceedings.
Earlier on February 27, the Accountability Court had indicted PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million reference, marking a significant development in the legal proceedings.
Imran Khan’s denial of the charges underscores the complexity and contentious nature of the case.
The case revolves around the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation into Imran Khan and his wife, among others, regarding the alleged acquisition of vast land holdings under the guise of Al Qadir University Trust.
This purported scheme is said to have resulted in a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer, raising serious concerns about financial mismanagement and corruption.
The establishment of the Trust for the Al-Qadir University Project on December 26, 2019, adds another layer of complexity to the case, as investigators delve into the intricacies of the financial transactions and legal frameworks surrounding the project.
