Police said on Sunday that a woman councilor was killed and her two sons were hurt when their neighbor attacked them with a knife late on Saturday night.
The man who was hurt, Fahad Ali, son of Ashfaq of Mohallah Afzalabad, told city police that one of their neighbors, Hamza, son of Zahoor Elahi, was a drug dealer and his wife left him a few days ago because of this. Mr. Ali said that Hamza wanted their mother to help him get back together with his wife.
The person who filed the complaint said that Hamza came to their house on Saturday night with the same request. When their mother said no, he used a knife to attack his (Ali’s) mother, seriously hurting her. When the complainant and his brother Khurram tried to stop the accused, he also hurt them.
The injured mother and her sons were taken to the trauma centre, where doctors pronounced Rabia Bibi, 35, a lady councillor of neighbourhood council No. 9, Haripur, dead. The injured complainant and his brother were admitted. Later, some of the victims’ family members set fire to the accused’s house, but firefighters quickly put out the flames. In Panian village, a young worker was killed by an electric shock while working on the roof of a mosque.
People in the area told the police that some workers were working on the roof of a mosque in Panian that was still being built when one of them accidentally touched an electricity line and got a very bad shock. The worker, who was later named Shabir Ahmed and was 30 years old, was taken to the trauma centre, where doctors said he was dead.
