Lahore Private College Rape Allegation Sparks Protests Amid Conflicting Accounts

A reported rape at a private college in Lahore has ignited widespread protests among students, leading to clashes and heightened tensions on campus. The incident, which allegedly involves a security guard, has resulted in conflicting narratives, with students staging demonstrations and boycotting classes in response to the claims.

According to police, the situation remains unverified, as neither the alleged victim nor her family has contacted authorities to file an official report. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran emphasized that no formal complaint has been registered with the police station, the 15 helpline, or the college administration. Following unconfirmed social media reports, police apprehended a suspect, but the investigation is hampered by the lack of direct communication from the alleged victim.

Protests erupted outside the Gulberg campus, escalating into confrontations when security guards attempted to lock down classrooms and gates. Students reacted by vandalizing property, damaging CCTV cameras and the entrance register. One student sustained injuries, and several others experienced medical distress during the protests. Nearby campuses also joined in the demonstrations, with female students blocking Canal Road near Muslim Town, asserting that both a male and female student were assaulted by a security guard. Injured students were subsequently hospitalized.

While the accused guard remains in custody and denies any wrongdoing, police investigations have found no supporting evidence from CCTV footage. DIG Kamran urged students to refrain from spreading rumors and to report any credible information directly to the police. The situation continues to unfold as students demand justice and clarity regarding the allegations.
