ISLAMABAD: In the early hours of Tuesday, a tragic terrorist assault targeted a police station in Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in the martyrdom of at least 25 army personnel and leaving numerous others wounded.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a subsequent intelligence-based operation led to the elimination of 27 terrorists linked to prior attacks on both security forces and civilians.
The security forces recovered significant arms and ammunition from the deceased terrorists.
The assailants, numbering six, attempted to breach the police station in Daraban, Dera Ismail Khan around 3 am on Tuesday. Their initial effort was thwarted, prompting them to drive an explosives-laden vehicle into the station’s main gate, claiming the lives of 23 soldiers in the process.
The administration in Dera Ismail Khan declared a state of emergency in local hospitals due to the escalating casualties.
Additionally, a separate suicide bombing at another police station in the district claimed the lives of three security personnel, further injuring several others.
The targeted police station in Daraban, situated approximately 40 kilometers west of DI Khan, bore the brunt of the attackers’ vehicular assault.
Emergency measures were swiftly enforced across district health facilities, leading to the closure of schools, colleges, and the postponement of scheduled examinations in the wake of this distressing incident.
