The Punjab Home Department has launched a “last chance” verification and digitization process for manual arms licences, allowing holders to register their licences in the computerized system. This initiative provides a final opportunity for those who missed the December 31, 2020, deadline, after which unregistered manual licences were slated for cancellation.
Holders of older booklet-form arms licences can now apply for verification and digital registration by submitting their applications to the Commissioner of the respective division or the Additional Secretary-Judicial of the Home Department.
Once received, the Home Department will verify the documents and records to ensure their authenticity. Only the Commissioner or Additional Secretary-Judicial will have the authority to approve and digitize arms licences. A formal written notification will be issued for each licence, whether it is for verification, extension, or digitization.
The renewal process also requires applicants to pay the prescribed fee as per the Punjab Arms Rules 2023.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has been designated to manage the digitization process, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition.
Key Features of the New Digital System:
- Online Applications: Citizens can apply for new arms licences or modify existing ones online.
- Digital Document Submission: Applicants can submit required documents and legal fees digitally.
- Licence Transfer and Renewal: Arms licences can be transferred or renewed online.
- Duplicate Licence Issuance: Duplicate licences can be requested through the online platform.
