LAHORE: Fatima, a female student who jumped from a building at a private university in Lahore, has regained consciousness and spoken to her family, doctors confirmed, although her condition remains critical as she continues treatment at Lahore General Hospital.
The injured student was shifted to Lahore General Hospital shortly after the incident and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Doctors said she has now been removed from the ventilator and is breathing on her own. However, medical officials cautioned that she remains under close observation due to the severity of her injuries.
Head of the medical board Prof. Dr. Jawdat Saleem said the student has been able to communicate with her parents and medical staff since regaining consciousness. He added that the family did not report any previous signs of mental stress or earlier suicide attempts. According to him, her condition is currently stable and satisfactory, but doctors will continue ICU care as a precautionary measure.
Medical assessment and psychological support
Meanwhile, doctors confirmed that the patientโs ventilator support has been successfully withdrawn. They said a final decision regarding possible spinal surgery will be reviewed again tomorrow, depending on her progress. Continuous medical assessments are underway to determine the safest next steps in her treatment.
In addition, a team of psychologists has begun interviewing the student to assess her mental and emotional state. Hospital officials said psychological evaluation is being treated as an essential part of the recovery process, with further detailed sessions scheduled in the coming days.
Authorities ensure support and investigation
Separately, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority Hina Pervaiz Butt visited Lahore General Hospital and met the student and her family. She directed doctors to use all available resources for treatment and instructed hospital staff to maintain strict monitoring.
Hina said the student will receive comprehensive medical, psychological and rehabilitation support. She also emphasized that all facts surrounding the incident will be investigated in accordance with the law, while ensuring the dignity and privacy of the student and her family.
