Lahore’s district administration will open registration for Basant 2027 kite material manufacturers on September 5. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz announced the decision.
The move marks a key step toward reviving the traditional festival under strict safety regulations. Officials aim to balance cultural celebrations with public safety requirements.
Administration Introduces Strict Safety Measures
Officials said manufacturers must obtain official permission before starting production activities. Moreover, only businesses holding valid no-objection certificates will receive approval.
The district administration will deploy monitoring teams across Lahore to oversee manufacturing operations. These teams will ensure producers follow approved safety standards.
Authorities will allow production of only approved kite sizes and permitted materials. Furthermore, officials will conduct inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
The administration also clarified rules regarding kite strings. Cotton string will remain permissible, while hazardous materials will stay banned.
Regulated Framework Supports Festival Revival
Deputy Commissioner Ijaz said the administration wants to restore Basant’s traditional spirit. At the same time, officials will prioritize public safety during all festival activities.
Ijaz stressed that manufacturers must follow approved kite dimensions and string requirements. He noted that strict compliance can significantly reduce accidents and injuries.
The registration process forms part of broader preparations for the festival’s return. Authorities continue developing a regulated framework designed to minimize public risks.
Meanwhile, officials plan to work closely with manufacturers throughout the implementation phase. They expect these measures to support safer Basant celebrations in 2027.
