LAHORE: Lahore witnessed the largest marathon event in Pakistan’s history as thousands of participants, including children, adults, and persons with disabilities, joined multiple races held across the city.
The CM Punjab National Marathon and Cycling Race 2026 began at 6 am from Liberty Chowk, where Provincial Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar inaugurated the event by leading the start on a bicycle. More than 11,000 athletes and citizens from across the country actively participated, reflecting widespread enthusiasm for sports and community engagement.
Meanwhile, organizers arranged a variety of races to accommodate different groups. A 21-kilometre marathon and a cycling race of the same distance took place for men, while women competed in five-kilometre marathons and cycling events. In addition, families joined a two-kilometre fun race, whereas a one-kilometre wheelchair race ensured the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
In the competitive segment, Ali Ilyas from Karachi secured first place in the men’s 21-kilometre cycling race. He was followed by Aqib Shah from Lahore in second position, while Sanaullah finished third. Similarly, Karachi participants dominated the women’s five-kilometre cycling race, where Zainab claimed first place, followed by Anisa and Rabi.
Furthermore, authorities implemented strict security measures and introduced a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth proceedings. Citizens were advised to use alternate routes to avoid congestion during the event.
