LAHORE: Justice Muhammad Raheel Kamran Sheikh of the Lahore High Court resigned on Thursday under Article 206 of the Constitution. He cited personal reasons for resigning from his position.
Justice Raheel Kamran submitted his resignation to the President of Pakistan and sent a copy to the Lahore High Court registrar.
In his resignation, he said he wanted to leave the bench to pursue further growth as a jurist and support the rule of law.
He also expressed his intention to contribute more broadly to legal scholarship, policy research and comparative judicial practice.
Justice Raheel Kamran described his years on the bench as among the most important and rewarding periods of his professional career.
He thanked his fellow senior judges and court staff for their support during his tenure.
The judge said he would leave the bench while maintaining his commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law.
Justice Raheel Kamran’s Legal Career
Justice Raheel Kamran joined the Lahore High Court as a judge on May 7, 2021.
He currently ranks 27th on the court’s seniority list and was scheduled to retire on January 20, 2036.
He is the son of Akram Sheikh, a former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Justice Raheel Kamran graduated in law from the London School of Economics and Political Science and became a barrister of Middle Temple.
He enrolled as an Advocate of the High Courts in April 2000 and as an Advocate of the Supreme Court in September 2012.
Extensive Experience at the Bar
During his legal career, he served as an elected member of the Pakistan Bar Council from 2016 to 2020.
He also chaired its Human Rights Committee and served on the Executive Committee.
His legal practice covered public law, commercial law, taxation, regulatory matters, white-collar crime and human rights.
His resignation now marks the end of his judicial tenure at the Lahore High Court.
