LHC Strength Rises to 50 as Only 10 Judicial Seats Remain Vacant
The Lahore High Court has prepared a new seniority list following the appointment of 10 additional judges, increasing the court’s working strength to 50 judges.
The Lahore High Court has a sanctioned strength of 60 judges. Following the latest appointments, only 10 positions remain vacant.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum remains the most senior judge and continues to head the Lahore High Court.
Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh occupies the second position and serves as the senior puisne judge.
Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan is ranked third, followed by Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi at number four and Justice Faisal Zaman Khan at number five.
Justice Shahid Karim stands sixth in the updated seniority order, while Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf is seventh.
Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal is placed eighth, Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhary ninth and Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi tenth. The official Lahore High Court judges directory also lists these judges among the court’s most senior sitting members.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani Ranked 11th in Updated List
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has been placed at number 11 in the new seniority list.
Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh follows at number 12, while Justice Jawad Hassan is ranked 13th.
Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir is 14th, Justice Farooq Haider 15th and Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan 16th.
Justice Rasaal Hasan Syed occupies the 17th position.
Justice Asim Hafeez is ranked 18th, followed by Justice Sadiq Mahmud Khurram at 19 and Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad at number 20.
Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem is ranked 21st.
Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq stands at number 22, Justice Abid Hussain Chattha at 23 and Justice Anwaar Hussain at 24.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa occupies the 25th position, followed by Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad at 26.
Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi is ranked 27th and Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh is at number 28.
The revised list is important because judicial seniority can influence administrative responsibilities within the high court and determines the formal order of judges on the bench.
Newly Appointed Judges Complete Updated 50-Member Bench
Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom has been placed at number 29.
Justice Malik Haider Awan follows at 30, while Justice Sardar Akbar Ali is ranked 31st.
Justice Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi is at number 32, Justice Malik Javid Iqbal Wains at 33 and Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar at 34.
Justice Khalid Ishaq is ranked 35th.
Justice Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid occupies the 36th position, while Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mehmood is at number 37.
Justice Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh is ranked 38th, Justice Abher Gul Khan 39th and Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa 40th.
Several of these judges were among the additional Lahore High Court judges whose permanent appointments were approved earlier in 2026.
The latest additions occupy the final positions in the new seniority order.
Justice Ghulam Sarwar Nahang is ranked 41st.
Justice Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid is at number 42, followed by Justice Ameer Ajam Malik at 43.
Justice Shireen Imran occupies the 44th position.
Justice Asad Ali Bajwa is ranked 45th, while Justice Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz is at number 46.
Justice Khalid bin Aziz stands at number 47.
Justice Munnawar Iqbal Duggal is ranked 48th, Justice Syed Farhad Ali Shah 49th and Justice Usman Ghani Rashid Cheema completes the list at number 50.
The expansion brings the Lahore High Court significantly closer to its sanctioned strength of 60 judges.
A larger working bench is expected to increase judicial capacity as the court handles constitutional, civil, criminal, commercial and administrative cases from across Punjab.
The latest appointments leave 10 remaining vacancies that can be filled through the constitutional judicial appointment process.
