A Lahore judicial magistrate on Saturday sent a woman suspect to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in an Azeri woman’s alleged rape case.
The 20-year-old Azerbaijani national had travelled to Pakistan for business purposes. She was allegedly gang-raped by three men at a rented apartment in a private housing society near Raiwind between Sept 25 and 26.
Police have arrested two of the accused men and secured their six-day physical remand. The court granted their remand on Tuesday as investigators continued probing the case.
Woman Named In Complainant’s Statement
In her statement, the complainant named two women she had met before the alleged incident. She said the women were present before the three men accused of rape gathered at the apartment.
One of the women obtained pre-arrest bail, while police arrested the other suspect. The arrested woman was subsequently sent on a three-day physical remand on Wednesday.
On Saturday, police produced the woman before Magistrate Azhar Mahmood after her physical remand expired. The investigating officer told the court that investigators no longer required her custody for further questioning.
Court Grants 14-Day Judicial Remand
The investigating officer requested that the suspect be sent to jail on judicial remand as her physical custody was no longer necessary.
After hearing the request, the magistrate approved the police plea and ordered the woman to remain in jail on judicial remand. The court set the remand period for 14 days, until October 17.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the alleged rape continues, with two male suspects already in police custody. Authorities are examining the statements and circumstances surrounding the reported incident.
