The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has granted post-arrest bail to social media activist Sanam Javed in connection with a protest case, requiring surety bonds worth Rs 100,000.
Sanam Javed was detained for participating in a protest rally held on February 8, where she was accused of obstructing traffic and raising slogans against the government. The case was filed by the Islam Pura Police, naming her along with several others.
Her legal counsel, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, argued that the charges were politically motivated. He highlighted that although the initial First Information Report (FIR) was registered on the day of the protest, terrorism-related charges were introduced much later, casting doubt on the credibility of the case.
The bail decision was issued by ATC Judge Irfan Haider, who reviewed the case file and legal arguments before approving the request on the condition of a Rs 100,000 surety.
Sanam Javed is affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and is known for her active involvement in its rallies. The charges against her include causing traffic disruption and chanting slogans deemed anti-state by law enforcement officials.
