Immigration lines increase from seven to 20 as authorities complete expansion work within just 15 days
LAHORE: Authorities have opened the newly expanded immigration area at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore for passenger related operations;ย significantly increasing processing capacity and reducing congestion during peak travel periods. The authorities completed the expansion work in only 15 days as part of efforts to accommodate growing passenger traffic and shorten waiting times at immigration counters.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the airport on Wednesday and reviewed the newly operational facility. During his visit, he inspected passenger arrangements and observed immigration procedures to assess the impact of the expansion.
Moreover, Naqvi interacted with passengers and sought their feedback about immigration processing and facilities available at the airport.
Immigration Lines Increased From Seven to 20
The expansion has increased the number of immigration lines from seven to 20, providing significantly greater capacity for processing arriving and departing passengers.
Consequently, officials expect the additional lines to reduce queues and ease pressure on immigration services, particularly during periods of heavy international passenger traffic.
Naqvi said authorities decided to provide immediate relief to travellers instead of waiting for the completion of permanent construction work.
Furthermore, he praised the Federal Secretary Defence, Civil Aviation authorities, the Federal Investigation Agency and other institutions for completing the expansion through coordinated and continuous efforts.
FIA Installs Additional Counters for Immediate Relief
Meanwhile, the FIA installed additional immigration counters to make the expanded section operational while authorities prepare permanent counters.
Naqvi said officials would install the permanent immigration counters soon and complete the remaining construction work as quickly as possible.
The minister stressed that improving passenger convenience remained a priority and directed relevant departments to maintain efficient immigration services. The expansion comes as authorities continue upgrading facilities at Lahore airport to handle increasing passenger numbers and improve the overall travel experience for domestic and international travellers.
