Kuwait has officially approved a comprehensive defence cooperation agreement with Pakistan to strengthen long-term military collaboration. Moreover, the agreement expands coordination in training, intelligence, defence technology and strategic planning between both countries.
Defence Agreement Strengthens Military Cooperation
The agreement, published in Kuwait’s official gazette, Kuwait Alyawm, formalises a framework signed by both countries in June 2023. Furthermore, it establishes a structured mechanism for sustained defence cooperation instead of limited military exchanges.
Under the agreement, Pakistan and Kuwait will implement annual cooperation programmes and joint planning initiatives. Additionally, both sides will maintain regular coordination between their respective defence institutions.
A joint military committee will oversee implementation of the agreement. The committee will meet annually to review progress and identify new areas for future cooperation.
The agreement also introduces strict rules for protecting classified military information. Consequently, neither country may share sensitive documents with third parties without prior approval.
Agreement Expands Strategic Security Collaboration
The decision comes amid growing regional instability involving Iran, the United States and armed groups across the Middle East. Therefore, Gulf countries are increasingly strengthening defence partnerships and improving military preparedness.
The agreement gives Kuwait greater access to Pakistan’s expertise in conventional warfare, counterterrorism, intelligence and defence training. Moreover, cooperation may expand into military research, surveillance and defence technology.
Both countries will also exchange military personnel, specialists and technical experts under the framework. Financial arrangements will follow reciprocal terms, with each side covering agreed expenses for official visits.
Additionally, the agreement remains separate from either country’s existing international obligations. Any disputes arising under the framework will be resolved through direct consultations between Pakistan and Kuwait.
Officials believe the partnership will strengthen military readiness while protecting critical infrastructure and strategic interests. Ultimately, the agreement reflects Kuwait’s broader strategy of expanding security cooperation alongside its established international alliances.
