Security authorities say Kuwaiti national received explosives and drone-making training before constructing an unmanned aircraft for planned attack
KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti security forces have foiled what authorities described as a terrorist plot targeting a vital facility and arrested a Kuwaiti national allegedly affiliated with Daesh before he could carry out the planned attack, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
The ministry said the State Security Service uncovered the alleged plot following intensive monitoring, surveillance and investigative work. Authorities intervened before the suspect could execute his plan, preventing a potential security incident.
However, officials did not identify the facility allegedly selected as the target or disclose where security forces arrested the suspect.
Suspect Allegedly Trained in Explosives and Drone Manufacturing
According to the Interior Ministry, investigators established that the suspect had received training in manufacturing explosives and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Furthermore, authorities said the suspect constructed a drone that he intended to use in an attack against a vital facility. The ministry did not provide additional information about the aircraft, its capabilities or the materials allegedly recovered during the investigation.
Security officials subsequently initiated legal proceedings against the suspect and referred him to the competent authorities for further investigation and action under Kuwaiti law.
The ministry also did not disclose whether investigators believe other individuals assisted the suspect or whether authorities expect additional arrests.
Authorities Pledge Continued Action Against Security Threats
Meanwhile, Kuwaitโs Interior Ministry said national security agencies would continue proactive operations aimed at identifying and disrupting activities that threaten the countryโs security and stability.
The ministry stressed that authorities would maintain a firm approach toward individuals or groups seeking to endanger citizens, residents or critical facilities.
Additionally, security agencies pledged to investigate suspicious activities and take decisive legal action whenever authorities identify potential threats.
The announcement highlights Kuwaitโs continuing counterterrorism efforts as regional governments strengthen surveillance and security measures against extremist networks, particularly those seeking to exploit emerging technologies such as drones for attacks.
