Provincial government plans one-stop facilities while accelerating e-governance, IT education, innovation and digital infrastructure initiatives
PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Science, Technology and Information Technology Shafi Jan has directed authorities to establish Citizen Facilitation Centres in every district of the province, aiming to provide multiple government services under one roof.
The minister issued the directive while chairing a high-level meeting at the office of Secretary Science and Information Technology Abdul Basit on Thursday.
Director General Science and Technology Sajid Ali Shah, Managing Director Information Technology Board Dr Aqif Khan and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Officials briefed the minister about the department’s performance, ongoing development projects and future initiatives covering science, technology, innovation, e-governance and digitalisation.
Government Pushes Digital Access Across Districts
The proposed Citizen Facilitation Centres will provide residents with easier access to government services through centralised facilities in their respective districts.
Moreover, the initiative forms part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to improve public service delivery through technology and digital governance.
During the meeting, officials also outlined programmes focusing on research and development and strengthening the province’s technology ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the minister reviewed measures aimed at expanding IT education and professional training to develop skilled workers for the growing technology sector.
IT Parks and Software Exports Remain Key Priorities
Furthermore, officials informed the meeting that the department continues to support local IT companies while promoting industrial and technological development across the province.
Authorities are also working on initiatives to establish IT parks and increase software exports, creating additional opportunities for technology businesses and professionals.
Additionally, the government has established six Model IT Labs in schools located in the merged districts.
The department plans to use these initiatives to improve digital skills among students and expand access to modern technology.
Consequently, the provincial government expects its combined digitalisation, education and infrastructure programmes to strengthen public services while supporting the long-term development of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s technology sector.
