ISLAMABAD: Amid growing political uncertainty in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a series of high-level meetings to assess the situation and address speculation over a potential shift in provincial power.
The Prime Minister met separately with KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Awami National Party (ANP) leader Senator Aimal Wali Khan. The discussions focused on the province’s evolving political landscape, with special attention given to a recent incident in the Swat River.
Governor Kundi briefed the Prime Minister on the Swat River situation, prompting Shehbaz Sharif to instruct relevant authorities to take swift preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The meeting was also attended by senior federal ministers, including Amir Muqam, Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Abdul Rehman Kanju, Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, and Special Assistant Talha Burki. According to an official statement, the gathering included a broader review of the national political climate.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Governor Kundi dismissed allegations of political engineering, stating, “If the opposition has even a single member more, it is their democratic right to form the government. There is no question of any conspiracy.” He added, “There’s no need to conspire against Ali Amin Gandapur—his own party members are enough.”
Separately, ANP’s Aimal Wali Khan also discussed national political matters with the Prime Minister during his meeting.
Adviser Rana Sanaullah clarified the government’s position, stating, “There has been no discussion with Maulana Fazlur Rehman about toppling the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, and no no-confidence motion against the PTI-led provincial setup is under consideration.”
The meetings come at a time when political maneuvering in KP has intensified, fueling speculation over potential changes in the provincial government.
