Sonia Shamroz and Resham Jahangir Get Key Field Commands
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has appointed two women as district police officers for the first time in its history.
According to a notification issued by the Central Police Office, Sonia Shamroz has been posted as District Police Officer Nowshera. Resham Jahangir has been appointed District Police Officer Lower Chitral.
The appointments mark a major milestone for women in policing in the province. They also reflect growing confidence in the leadership, professionalism, and operational abilities of women officers.
The development comes at a time when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing serious law and order challenges. The decision shows that women officers are now being trusted with important field responsibilities in sensitive districts.
Sonia Shamroz has already made history in the province. She was the second female assistant superintendent of police posted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Anoosh Masood Chaudhry.
Both officers joined the Police Service of Pakistan through the Central Superior Services examination and selected the police service as their first preference.
Women Officers Taking Stronger Operational Roles
Women officers have gradually taken on more important roles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
Anoosh Masood Chaudhry belonged to the 40th Common Training Programme, while Sonia Shamroz was part of the 41st Common Training Programme. Helena Rizwan Tareen, from the 23rd Common Training Programme, was the first woman officer to join the Police Service of Pakistan.
Several other women officers are also serving in key positions across the province. Ayesha Gul is currently serving as Senior Superintendent of Police Investigation Peshawar. Maria Mustafa is serving as Superintendent of Police Investigation Mardan.
Women recruited by the provincial police have also risen to senior ranks. These include Shazia Shahid, Rozia Altaf, Anila Naz, Shahzadi Noshad, Ismat Khattak, Hameeda, and others.
In recent years, policewomen have also served as additional station house officers in several districts, including Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, and Kurram.
More Transfers Announced by KP Police
The latest notification also announced several other police postings.
Riffatullah has been posted as District Police Officer Charsadda. Furqan Bilal has been appointed District Police Officer Bannu. Ikramullah has been posted as District Police Officer Shangla. Talal Ahmad Shah has been appointed District Police Officer Lower Dir.
Waqas Khan has been posted as Assistant Inspector General Logistics. Yasir Afridi will proceed on a Senior Management Course. Ahmad Shah has been appointed Assistant Inspector General Establishment, replacing Sonia Shamroz.
In Khyber district, several women officers have previously held important operational roles. Mehek Pervez Masih served as Additional Station House Officer Landikotal. Naila Jabbar served as Additional Station House Officer Ali Masjid. Fatima Sameen Jan served as Additional Station House Officer Bara. Nusrat Bibi served as Additional Station House Officer Jamrud. Shanzeh was appointed Additional Line Officer in Bara.
The appointment of Sonia Shamroz and Resham Jahangir as district police officers is being seen as an important step toward greater representation of women in police leadership.
