PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated new hybrid buses, the Pink Bus Service for women, a solarisation project at Chamkani Depot and the Mall of Hayatabad Depot.
Speaking at the ceremony, Afridi said he had fulfilled his commitment to introduce dedicated transport facilities for women across the province. He announced that passengers using the Pink Bus Service would receive a 25 per cent discount on fares.
The chief minister also praised women working as bus drivers, describing them as examples for others.
Afridi rejected portrayals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a province associated with terrorism and highlighted the initiatives aimed at supporting women. He said respect for women and elders, care for children and patriotism were important elements of Pashtun society.
During his address, Afridi also announced that his party would hold a long march towards Islamabad on October 4.
“We are not going to retreat,” he said, adding that the march would proceed as planned.
Afridi Criticises Government Expenditure
The KP chief minister also criticised the country’s financial position and government spending. He claimed Pakistan’s debt had reached Rs99 trillion and said elected representatives should prioritise public service.
He argued that politicians who receive a public mandate should not use state resources for personal luxuries, including expensive vehicles and private aircraft.
Afridi also questioned government spending on a three-day conference, claiming that Rs6 billion in public funds was being allocated for the event.
He said authorities should exercise greater financial responsibility and ensure that public resources are directed towards the needs of citizens.
The chief minister’s remarks came during the inauguration of several transport and infrastructure initiatives in Peshawar, including projects aimed at improving public transportation and services for women.
