‘Ehsaas Apna Ghar’
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has officially launched the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar” scheme, a landmark initiative aimed at providing interest-free loans to low-income citizens for the construction of their own homes.
The scheme is designed to address the housing needs of underprivileged families across the province and marks a major step toward inclusive development and social uplift.
The formal inauguration ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar on Monday. Chief Minister Gandapur presided over the event as the chief guest, and was joined by key members of the provincial cabinet, including Meena Khan Afridi, Muzzammil Aslam, Dr. Amjad, and Rangaiz Ahmad. Senior officials from the Housing Department and other government representatives were also present.
During the event, the Chief Minister personally distributed cheques to the first batch of successful applicants, symbolizing the operational rollout of the programme.
Addressing the gathering, CM Gandapur emphasized that providing shelter to every citizen is a fundamental responsibility of the state, and the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar” initiative is a crucial step toward fulfilling this obligation.
The government has allocated a substantial amount of Rs4 billion for the programme, ensuring a wide reach and long-term sustainability. To maintain transparency and fairness, beneficiaries will be selected through a computerized ballot system, eliminating the possibility of favoritism or political interference.
Under the scheme, eligible applicants can receive interest-free loans of up to Rs1.5 million to construct their own homes. The loans are repayable in easy installments, making homeownership a realistic goal for many who were previously unable to afford it.
The eligibility criteria specify that individuals must be between the ages of 18 and 65 and earn less than Rs150,000 per month to qualify for the scheme. By targeting low-income households, the initiative aims to empower those most in need and promote financial inclusion.
“Ehsaas Apna Ghar” is part of the broader Ehsaas framework, which is focused on poverty alleviation and social welfare. The housing component of the programme not only addresses the basic human need for shelter but also contributes to economic growth by generating construction activity and related employment.
The launch of this scheme underscores the KP government’s commitment to social justice and inclusive development, and it is expected to benefit thousands of families across the province in the coming years.
