Province Awaits Official Moon Sighting Announcement
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a public holiday across the province on the first day of Muharram 1448 AH.
The holiday will depend on the official moon sighting decision by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
According to a notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Administration Department, all government offices and relevant institutions in the province will observe the holiday on the first day of the Islamic year.
However, the notification made it clear that the holiday is conditional. It will be observed only after the official declaration of the start of Muharram by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan.
The announcement has been made in advance to help departments, employees and citizens prepare for the expected holiday.
Muharram Likely to Begin on June 17
Astronomical calculations suggest that Muharram 1448 AH is likely to begin on Wednesday, June 17.
The new moon is not expected to be visible anywhere in Pakistan on the evening of June 15.
This means the Islamic month may begin after the completion of the current lunar month, depending on the final decision of the moon-sighting body.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will review reports from across the country before making an official announcement.
The committeeโs decision will determine the exact date of the first Muharram and the public holiday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Muharram Marks Start of Islamic Year
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It carries deep religious significance for Muslims around the world.
The month is also associated with remembrance, reflection and religious gatherings.
The first day of Muharram marks the beginning of the new Islamic year.
Authorities are expected to issue further administrative instructions after the moon-sighting announcement.
Citizens have been advised to follow official updates instead of relying on unofficial reports.
The final holiday date will be confirmed once the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces the start of Muharram.
