Virat Kohli has confirmed that the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup will be his final tournament for India. The veteran batter said he remains fully motivated to help India win the prestigious title.
Kohli made the announcement while speaking to broadcaster JioStar on Saturday. The 37-year-old currently represents India only in the ODI format after retiring from T20 internationals and Test cricket.
Kohli Targets One Final World Cup Triumph
Kohli said the upcoming tournament would be his last opportunity to win another World Cup for India. He added that he was prepared to give everything required to help the team achieve success.
The star batter won the ODI World Cup in 2011 on home soil. However, he also experienced disappointment when India lost the 2023 final against Australia.
The 2027 World Cup, scheduled for October and November, will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The tournament will mark Kohli’s fifth appearance in the ODI World Cup.
Veteran Batter Highlights Tournament Challenges
Kohli described the 50-over World Cup as one of cricket’s toughest competitions. He said maintaining intensity throughout a long tournament requires exceptional physical and mental effort.
The batter noted that foreign conditions would make the challenge even greater. Nevertheless, he said his focus remains firmly on helping India lift the trophy.
Meanwhile, former captain Rohit Sharma also expressed enthusiasm for another World Cup campaign. Rohit said he remains motivated and continues to look forward to representing India on the international stage.
Both Kohli and Rohit have been included in India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The opening match of the series will take place in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
