LONDON: Pakistan’s men’s cricket team players and officials met Britain’s King Charles III at Clarence House in London on Wednesday.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also attended the meeting, where the monarch spoke with the players and team officials.
According to details, King Charles encouraged the Pakistani players and praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace.
The king also discussed cricket and Pakistan’s efforts to maintain peace and security with Naqvi during the meeting.
King Charles praises Pakistan’s peace efforts
During the meeting, the British high commissioner told King Charles that Pakistan and Naqvi had played an important role in regional peace efforts.
Naqvi later described his meeting with the British monarch as “very productive”.
The meeting came as Pakistan’s national cricket team continues its tour of England for a three-match Test series.
The players received encouragement from the monarch ahead of the remaining matches of the series.
Pakistan struggles in opening Test
Pakistan entered the England series after drawing 1-1 in its away Test series against the West Indies.
However, the Green Shirts suffered a heavy defeat in the opening Test against England.
The hosts defeated Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs, putting the visitors under early pressure in the three-match series.
Pakistan played the opening match without former captain Babar Azam, whose absence affected the team’s batting strength.
The national side will now look to recover in the remaining Tests and improve its performance against the hosts.
