Pop singer Kim Petras has publicly defended actress Hunter Schafer after the *Euphoria* star faced intrusive and derogatory online comments following her disclosure about undergoing gender-affirming bottom surgery.
In a statement shared on social media platform X on October 20, Petras criticised the reaction to Schafer’s personal announcement, describing her decision to speak openly as brave. She said the comments exposed the ways transgender women are frequently fetishised and judged based on their bodies.
Schafer recently discussed her experience in an *Elle* magazine cover story, revealing that she underwent the surgery in December 2025. The actress described the experience positively and explained that sharing her story could help address the gap between personal identity and the way society perceives transgender people.
Petras also connected the criticism to her own experiences as a transgender woman. The German-born singer has previously spoken about facing transphobic remarks concerning her body and medical transition.
In her social media post, Petras argued that people should not devalue someone because they have chosen to align their physical appearance with their identity. She also referenced her song “Brutalist,” which explores themes related to transformation, identity and societal judgment.
The singer’s comments attracted support from social media users who condemned the treatment of both artists and called for greater respect for transgender people.
Schafer, widely recognised for playing Jules Vaughn in HBO’s *Euphoria*, has also built a career in modelling and film.
The controversy has renewed discussion about privacy, online harassment and the scrutiny transgender celebrities face when sharing personal experiences.
