The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a petrol subsidy scheme to ease the burden on motorcyclists following recent increases in fuel prices across Pakistan.
Under this initiative, motorcycle owners will pay the previous petrol price through a subsidy of Rs55 per litre, as announced by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The program aims to provide immediate relief for commuters relying on motorcycles for daily travel.
Subsidy Covers 40 Litres of Petrol
Eligible motorcycle owners registered in the province will receive the subsidy on 40 litres of petrol, equating to Rs2,200 per motorcyclist. This support helps offset the financial impact caused by the federal government’s recent Rs55 per litre petrol price hike.
The provincial treasury will allocate Rs3.2 billion to finance this relief program. Officials emphasized that the scheme primarily benefits lower and middle-income commuters, who are most affected by rising transportation costs.
Millions Expected to Benefit
Approximately 14 million motorcyclists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to benefit from the subsidy. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information, Shafiullah Jan, confirmed the details of the relief package.
