Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi group towards Khamis Mushait, Saudi authorities said. Coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki said the forces destroyed the missile before it could reach its target. The incident comes as fighting between Houthi forces and Saudi-backed Yemeni forces intensifies.
Coalition Intercepts Missile From Yemen
According to the coalition, the missile came from an area controlled by the Houthis in Yemen. The coalition identified Sanaa, Saada and Amran as key sources of missile threats. It also said it would continue operations against ballistic and surface-to-surface missile threats.
The latest interception follows attacks on Saudi targets earlier this week. Authorities reported minor injuries after separate attacks targeted airports in Najran and Jazan.
Saudi Forces Continue Operations in Yemen
Meanwhile, Saudi-led forces have continued air operations against Houthi positions in Yemen. The coalition has reported strikes against weapons depots, missile launch sites and other military facilities. It has also targeted explosive boats and naval mines in areas controlled by the Houthis.
The latest escalation comes as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces push to regain territory from the Houthi group. The fighting has also intensified around Taiz and the strategic Bab el-Mandeb area.
Reports from Yemen have also cited heavy casualties among Houthi fighters. However, independent sources have not verified the reported figures.
Saudi Cabinet Reaffirms Support for Yemen
Separately, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman chaired a cabinet meeting to discuss regional developments.
The Saudi government reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s internationally recognised government and its Presidential Leadership Council.
Moreover, the cabinet reviewed developments across the region and discussed international affairs.
Mecca Defence Pact Faces Growing Test
The latest developments come after Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye activated their mutual defence framework following attacks on Saudi targets.
The three countries agreed to strengthen joint defence responsibilities and prepare for the rapid deployment of military capabilities under the Mecca defence agreement.
Therefore, the latest missile interception carries wider regional significance. Saudi Arabia now faces continued Houthi attacks while its allies prepare to strengthen collective defence measures.
As tensions rise, further developments in Yemen and around Saudi territory could shape the next phase of the regional conflict.
