Grammy-winning singer Kelly Clarkson has shared her views on artificial intelligence, saying she supports the technology but believes AI-generated artists should not compete directly with human musicians on music charts.
During a recent appearance on the *Las Culturistas* podcast with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, Clarkson described her position as potentially “controversial” while explaining her enthusiasm for AI.
“I love AI,” Clarkson said, noting that she finds the technology fascinating and enjoys using it creatively. However, she said she has concerns about AI-generated music competing against music created by human artists on the same charts.
Clarkson suggested creating separate charts for AI-generated music and human musicians rather than excluding artificial intelligence from the music industry.
She said AI should be “welcome to the table” and described its potential in music as “really cool and creative.” The singer also acknowledged that AI could provide opportunities for people who may not otherwise have the ability to create music.
Her comments come amid growing discussions within the music industry about the impact of generative AI on artists, songwriting and music distribution.
AI tools are increasingly being used to generate vocals, melodies and complete songs, while artists and industry groups continue debating issues surrounding creativity, copyright and fair compensation.
Clarkson’s remarks reflect a broader conversation about how music platforms should classify AI-generated works as the technology becomes more accessible to creators.
Rather than rejecting AI entirely, Clarkson said she supports its creative possibilities while favoring a distinction between human-made and AI-generated music on the charts.
