Karan Johar’s popular celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan will end after its upcoming ninth season, concluding a 22-year run. The final season will begin streaming on JioHotstar on October 14.
The show debuted in 2004 and has completed eight seasons featuring 161 episodes so far. Johar welcomed major Bollywood stars and sports personalities, discussing their relationships, friendships, marriages and careers.
Star-Studded Show Built A Massive Following
The first episode featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, while later seasons welcomed stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Kajol and Kareena Kapoor also became among the show’s most frequent guests.
The conversations often generated widespread attention, with several episodes becoming viral across social media. However, the programme also faced controversy during its long run.
Johar Plans To Focus On Filmmaking
In 2019, an episode featuring cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul was removed from Hotstar after Pandya made controversial remarks about women. Both players subsequently faced a brief suspension from India’s national cricket team.
Johar also sparked confusion in 2022 when he announced that the show would “not be returning.” He later clarified that the programme had moved from television to the streaming platform Hotstar.
Johar said the show had become an important part of his identity in entertainment. However, he now wants to focus on directing films and telling more stories during the next decade of his career.
The filmmaker described ending the show as an emotional and personal decision. He added that he hopes its legacy of memorable conversations and entertainment continues with audiences.
