Pakistani security forces have successfully eliminated 17 terrorists linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to as Khawarij, during a major intelligence-based operation in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Officials confirmed the operation was launched after credible intelligence reported the presence of the Mullah Nazir group in the remote Dareshk area.
The mission, which extended over two days, was a joint effort involving the Pakistan Army, Special Services Group (SSG), and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
Forces encircled the militants in a rugged mountainous terrain, engaging in an intense exchange of fire that ultimately resulted in the killing of 17 fighters and leaving more than 10 others seriously injured. During the clashes, at least three security personnel sustained injuries, though officials noted they were out of danger.
The local community expressed strong support for the security forces, warmly welcoming them back following the successful operation. Residents celebrated the action, commending the forces for restoring peace to the region and pledging their continued cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the operation, paying tribute to the bravery of the armed forces and security agencies. He lauded their swift and decisive action in thwarting what he described as the “nefarious intentions” of the terrorists.
The premier also extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured soldiers and reassured the public of the government’s firm resolve to defeat terrorism in all its forms.
“The government and the armed forces are determined to completely eradicate terrorism. We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace of our land,” Shehbaz affirmed, emphasizing that Pakistan’s security institutions remain vigilant and committed to ensuring lasting stability across the country. This operation stands as another significant blow to militant networks operating in the region.
