KARACHI: A Karachi businessman staged his own death to escape payment of millions of rupees debt to the creditors. The truth surface when police uncovered new details about a burnt body found inside a car.
Police said the charred body recovered from a vehicle in Surjani Town on Monday did not belong to rice trader Zeeshan Naz.
Instead, investigators identified the deceased as Qurban Hussain, a resident of Muzaffargarh. Authorities are now investigating how he reached Karachi and died.
According to police, suspects allegedly burned Hussain’s body inside the vehicle at an isolated location in Surjani Town.
Investigators believe the incident aimed to create the impression that Zeeshan Naz had died in the fire.
Police have detained Naz’s wife after she identified the charred body as her husband. However, his brothers refused to confirm the identification.
Consequently, their conflicting statements raised further questions about the circumstances surrounding the case.
Meanwhile, investigators recovered Naz’s mobile phone, wallet, ATM cards and other personal documents from the vehicle.
Police also discovered a video linked to his alleged death during the investigation.
Therefore, investigators suspect the businessman deliberately left his belongings inside the vehicle before disappearing.
Police believe Naz may have gone into hiding to avoid repaying debts worth Rs550 million.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have launched efforts to trace the missing businessman and determine his current whereabouts.
Authorities are also investigating the identity of the deceased and examining how he became involved in the alleged plan.
Furthermore, investigators are working to identify other individuals who may have helped organise or execute the suspected scheme.
Police said they will take further legal action after completing the ongoing investigation and establishing the facts surrounding the case.
