KARACHI: Three suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Dr Akash Kumar were killed during a police encounter in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maimar area. Police officials said the suspects died after their accomplices opened fire during a raid conducted to arrest them.
The incident occurred as investigators continued efforts to trace those responsible for the young doctor’s killing. Meanwhile, police have intensified their search operation to identify and arrest other suspects connected to the case.
Police Raid Leads to Deadly Encounter
Special Investigation Unit of the Crime Investigation Agency (SIUCIA) SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro shared details of the operation. He said police teams raided a house in Brohi Goth, Gulshan-e-Maimar, to arrest suspects linked to the murder case.
According to the SSP, the police had already detained some suspects. During the raid, their accomplices opened fire at the police team.
“On seeing the personnel, the accomplices started firing at them, resulting in injuries to Suresh, Ram Chandar and Aneel, who later succumbed to their wounds,” SSP Soomro said.
He added that a police officer also suffered injuries during the exchange of fire. Following the encounter, authorities surrounded the area and launched a search operation to locate other individuals involved in the case.
Investigation Continues Into Dr Akash Kumar Murder
The development came a week after a judicial magistrate granted police a seven-day physical remand of three suspects arrested in connection with Dr Akash Kumar’s murder.
Dr Akash, who worked at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), lost his life during a robbery incident near Teen Talwar in Karachi. According to police, armed robbers intercepted his vehicle and escaped with around Rs2 million.
The cash belonged to the doctor, who had withdrawn the amount from a private bank before the attack.
Authorities launched an investigation after the incident and began collecting evidence to identify those responsible. The latest encounter marks a significant development in the case as police continue efforts to bring all suspects before the law.
The investigation remains ongoing, while law enforcement agencies are conducting further operations to ensure the arrest of remaining suspects.
