Six armed robbers looted gold and silver worth millions of rupees from three jewellery shops at a Karachi shopping mall in broad daylight.
The robbery took place at RBS Shopping Mall near Saima Shopping Center on University Road, according to police.
The suspects reportedly targeted three jewellery shops and escaped after opening fire, creating panic among shoppers and people in the surrounding area.
Robbers Escape With Gold and Silver
According to the affected jewellers, the incident occurred between 1:45pm and 2pm on Sunday.
The robbers reportedly took around 1.5 kilograms of gold and 14 kilograms of silver from the three shops.
The targeted outlets were identified as RBS Jewellers, Ayesha Jewellers and Khadija Jewellers.
A call was made to police helpline 15 during the robbery. However, the suspects had already escaped before police reached the scene.
Police said the robbers opened fire while fleeing the mall. No immediate report of casualties was provided.
Police Collect Evidence
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Zubair Nazir said police immediately reached the mall after receiving information about the incident.
The crime scene unit was called to collect forensic evidence from the targeted shops.
Investigators recovered fingerprints and other clues from the scene. Police are also collecting CCTV footage from the mall and surrounding areas to identify the suspects and trace their escape route.
Security Arrangements Under Investigation
The robbery has also raised questions about security arrangements at the shopping mall.
SSP East said none of the three jewellery shops had a watchman or security guard posted outside.
Police are continuing their investigation and examining the available CCTV footage and forensic evidence.
Authorities are also working to determine whether the suspects had carried out surveillance of the jewellery shops before launching the robbery.
