ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said the upcoming Karachi IT Park is expected to create around 15,000 jobs and generate up to $100 million annually in information and communications technology exports.
The Karachi IT Park is a flagship E-Pakistan project under the federal government’s Uraan Pakistan initiative. The Pakistan Software Export Board is developing the facility near Jinnah International Airport.
The government plans to establish the project as a regional technology hub while providing infrastructure for IT companies, startups and other technology-focused businesses.
Project to Feature 220 Offices and Tier-III Data Centre
The planned facility will provide approximately 1.18 million square feet of covered space and include 220 modern offices alongside 30 dedicated startup spaces.
Furthermore, the project will house a Tier-III data centre designed to support technology companies and digital services operating from the facility.
The government expects the development to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy, expand technology-sector employment and increase the country’s capacity to generate ICT exports.
Meanwhile, authorities have allocated Rs3.75 billion for the project under the Public Sector Development Programme for 2026-27.
Official budget documents specifically earmark Rs3.745 billion for the Karachi IT Park during the current fiscal year.
National Assembly Committee Seeks Faster Construction
The project remains under construction and has yet to enter its operational phase.
In June, a National Assembly committee said work on the Karachi IT Park remained at an initial stage and directed the relevant authorities to accelerate implementation.
Consequently, timely completion will remain important for achieving the employment and export targets outlined for the project.
Once operational, the facility is intended to provide modern infrastructure for established technology businesses and emerging startups while positioning Karachi as a larger centre for Pakistan’s growing IT industry and digital export sector.
