Karachi police have announced strict measures to prevent aerial firing and ensure public safety during New Year celebrations as the city prepares to welcome 2026. Authorities have declared that any incidents of aerial firing will be treated as attempted murder, emphasizing zero tolerance for violations of the law.
Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Javed Alam Odho stated that Safe City cameras will be used to identify individuals involved in unlawful activities, while traffic police will be deployed at key points to maintain smooth movement.
Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon urged residents to avoid reckless behavior, stunts, and gunfire, warning that negligence could result in loss of life.
Over 7,200 police personnel, including 2,117 female officers, have been deployed across Karachi to maintain order, with 336 police mobiles and 646 motorcycle patrols covering all city zones. The South Zone has the largest deployment with 4,237 officers, followed by the East and West Zones.
Authorities have urged citizens to report suspicious activities by calling 15 and encouraged calm, joyful celebrations. Special traffic arrangements have been implemented, particularly near popular destinations such as Sea View, Clifton, and Ibn-e-Qasim Park.
Seaview Road traffic will operate one-way from McDonald’s to the Clock Tower, with heavy vehicles allowed only after 2am. Vehicles with broken or missing silencers and reckless drivers will face strict legal action.
For the first time, Karachi police will use drones to monitor aerial firing in areas including Liaquatabad, Sharifabad, Azizabad, and Nazimabad. Drone footage will assist in registering cases against offenders. More than 16 police stations have already been equipped with drone cameras to strengthen enforcement efforts.
Authorities stress that these measures are part of a comprehensive plan to ensure safe, peaceful, and crime-free New Year celebrations across the city, protecting lives and promoting responsible behavior among residents.
