A woman suffered severe burns after an alleged acid attack in Karachi’s Upper Gizri area on Thursday. The victim sustained injuries to her face, hands, and upper body. Police immediately launched an investigation to trace the suspect and determine the motive behind the attack.
According to police, the woman works as a domestic helper in Clifton. She was travelling between workplaces when the incident occurred. Moreover, her initial statement helped investigators establish the sequence of events before the attack.
Police Probe Suspect’s Identity and Motive
Senior Superintendent of Police South Mahzor Ali said eyewitnesses noticed the woman speaking with a motorcyclist. However, the conversation reportedly turned into an argument shortly afterward. The suspect then allegedly threw acid at the woman and escaped from the scene.
Police believe the attacker arrived with the acid and waited for the woman. Meanwhile, people nearby quickly alerted emergency services after witnessing the incident. An ambulance soon transported the injured woman to the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital for urgent treatment.
Authorities recorded the victim’s statement and collected evidence from the area. Investigators also reviewed eyewitness accounts to strengthen the case. As a result, police continue gathering information to identify the attacker.
Victim Refuses to Identify Suspect in Photograph
Police revealed that the woman originally belongs to Bahawalpur and currently lives alone in Karachi. Her husband reportedly contracted a second marriage and remained in their hometown. Consequently, she moved to Karachi and supported herself through domestic work.
Investigators showed her a photograph of a possible suspect. However, she declined to confirm the individual as the attacker. She stated that she did not know the suspect but could identify him in person.
Meanwhile, police are contacting her relatives in Karachi for additional information. Further investigations remain underway to uncover the attacker’s identity and establish the motive behind the alleged acid attack.
