ISLAMABAD: Pakistan women’s fast bowler Kainat Imtiaz has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a 13-year career with the national team. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed her decision on Sunday.
The right-arm pacer represented Pakistan in 19 One-Day Internationals and 21 T20 Internationals. She made her T20I debut against South Africa in Potchefstroom in October 2010 before making her ODI debut against Ireland in Fatullah, Bangladesh, the following year.
Kainat featured in four matches during the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. She was also part of Pakistan’s gold-medal-winning squads at the 2010 Asian Games in China and the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea.
She later represented Pakistan at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Her final T20I appearance came against Thailand in Sylhet in October 2022, while her last ODI was against Australia at the Gabba in January 2023.
Kainat Begins New Chapter as Match Referee
Although she has retired as a player, Kainat will remain involved in cricket. She recently started working as a match referee during the PCB National Women’s Under-19 T20 Tournament held in August and September.
Her transition into officiating also continues a family cricket legacy. Her mother, Saleema Imtiaz, became Pakistan’s first woman umpire on the ICC International Development Panel in 2024.
Kainat’s retirement marks the conclusion of her playing career while opening a new chapter in Pakistani cricket as she moves into match officiating.
